The network comes before everything

Decide what you are protecting, then choose systems

List the things worth protecting: stock, equipment, documents, cash handling, staff safety after hours, and your reputation when incidents occur. Each maps to a control: cameras where incidents would happen, access control where entry should be limited, attendance systems where workforce records matter.

Buying systems before this list exists is how businesses end up with cameras watching the car park and nothing on the stockroom.

Choose systems that can grow together

A workplace rarely stays static. Pick CCTV, access control and visitor systems that are compatible and expandable, so a second floor or a second branch extends the existing setup instead of replacing it. Ask every supplier one question: if we double in size, what exactly changes?

Assign ownership before day one
